This month HOME proves we can do top end as well as ... the low end. The challenge asked of us was can a room be pulled together for just $1500??
Hmmm, usually we like to spend this much on a light fitting, but through a nifty combination of black, belgian grey, walnut and a highlight of Hermes box orange, we made it through- with change to spare (although we swiftly spent that at Grandiflora) We were truly impressed by the Indian-made striped rug we secured at Ikea for under $20. Truly.
P.S We'd like to thank the timeless and ever chic bentwood chair from Thonet (pictured is the Le Corbusier) for its ability to save a room and its enduring beauty. By the way, its the chairs 150th birthday!
Happy Birthday to you, you darling chair!

The resolute highlight of MM's recent trip to Paris was the new store, Merci. An incredible destination where designers from all disciplines offer incredible homewares and furniture alongside YSL, Vanessa Bruni and impeccable vintage treasures. It's a 1,500 square meter utopia where you can decanter your own Annick Goutal perfumes. (yes please!) stock up at the used book store and shop for kids. It even has a haberdashery counter. Buy up (MM did- electrical cord to rewire lamps, modern with retro touch light switches,a garbage bin, ribbons and kids clothes) knowing your money is going to the founders charity and helping the lives of deprived children in Madagascar. An online shop is underway but a visit to Merci's street address feels like the ultimate way to shop- in a home like set up with money going to those who need it most, it's
a fair deal all round www.merci-merci.com.

Soft grey is one of the loveliest colours to work with, especially in rooms with a northerly aspect. In line with our fascination with wall colour (some very exciting news on that front in the near future!) we present to you Bauwerk 'Smoke' www.bauwerk.com.au
Its the perfect tonic for concrete and as the evidence here shows, mustard, parchment and greens.

We love bed linen. We style it, work with it, order lots of it, but we have been floored with the incredible tea stain colour of Redelli's duvet cover. Its weave is beautiful and while it suits this casual, slightly distressed room, it can also be tucked in for some super straight hospital corners. Its investment territory, but so well worth it. In the words of Belle magazine, Buy Once, Buy Better!
Available at Hub stores in both Sydney and Melbourne. . Watch out for the fitting-less closure on the duvet cover, its just divine and the scalloped and doona filler just slips out when shaken.

Could a feature light get any more whimsical? Just when you thought you were over birdies and butterflies, along comes the Mathieu Challieres bird light .
A little ladies room that really doesn't need a chandelier? This might be the perfect solution.

Its such a great idea. Select a country and rent a fabulous home from someone in the know- in the design industry. (or visa versa with your place). It's the savviest idea we have heard off in a long time and just know that super-agent and Caravan Director Rebecca Wolkenstein's idea will be globally in demand. Investigate now, its a genius and very GFC friendly concept. All you need do is pick a country. www.creativecaravan.net
